Into the garden with Dachser

Dachser DIY-Logistics to present its global supply pipeline for DIY stores and garden centers at the spoga+gafa in Cologne

Visitors can get the garden experience at the spoga gafa international garden and leisure trade fair in Cologne from 4-6 September. “Into the garden” is also the motto for logistics provider, Dachser, which will be presenting its DIY-Logistics supply pipeline for DIY stores and garden centers together with its Italian partner Fercam at stand D001 in Hall 6.1.

In Dachser’s DIY network – just like in a pipeline – goods flow continuously and on-demand from the manufacturer to the point of sale and, where necessary, back again, ensuring fully stocked shelves at all times. The circulation of goods is accompanied by a flow of information between suppliers, logistics provider and retailers. This is supported by user-friendly Dachser IT systems such as the web-based eLogistics applications ‘Order Monitor’ order management system and the ‘Shipment Control’ Tracking & Tracing tool. These are complemented in distribution by the ‘Active Report’ Supply Chain Event Management program, as well as cross-platform
EDI networking.

The continuous flow of goods and information in the supply pipeline is organized by Dachser’s experienced team of experts. The industry specialists combine logistics service modules ranging from sourcing and distribution, via warehousing and value added services, to merchandising, to create an individual service package tailored exactly to the customer’s needs. The needs of the industry are, after all, as varied as the range of products on sale at DIY stores and garden centers.

“Staff at DIY outlets and garden centers spend more than half their working hours unloading and unpacking goods, display building and refilling shelves,” explains Ralf Meistes, department head of Dachser DIY-Logistics. “A gap-free logistics service from manufacturer to shelf and back again allows retailers to deploy their staff for more productive activities such as advising and selling.”

Dachser DIY-Logistics supplies all 18,000 DIY outlets and garden centers in Europe within defined time slots. Goods from overseas are transported to Europe via Dachser Air & Sea Logistics. They are subsequently distributed via Dachser European Logistics’ pan-European overland network. Ramp contacts are reduced with the help of the SynLOG consolidation concept (a cooperation project between the supplier associations BAU+DIY and Industrieverband Garten). Far East quality control rounds off the fully integrated concept. Dachser DIY-Logistics cooperates closely with the Federal Association of German DIY, Building and Garden Specialist Stores (BHB), the manufacturers’ association Haus & Garten, the German Garden Industry Association (Industrieverband Garten, IVG), the Global Home Improvement Network (GHIN), as well as GreenNet.

In 2010, the internationally operating logistics provider, Dachser, generated total revenue of USD 5.4 billion. 19,250 staff working in 310 locations worldwide handled 46.2 million shipments weighing a total of 35.5 million tons.
