Dachser invests in India, a key market of the future
Dachser and AFL – one of India’s market leaders – set up a joint venture
Kempten/Mumbai 8 February 2007. At the beginning of February, Dachser – the international logistics provider – set up a joint venture with AFL, one of India’s leading logistics companies. The new company is called AFL DACHSER Pvt. Ltd., and the partners each have a 50% stake. The new company has 495 employees in 30 branches and is headquartered in Mumbai.
AFL, the globally operating Indian logistics provider, is hiving off parts of its business and integrating them into the joint venture with Dachser. The new company has over 30 branches of its own in India. The board members are the AFL chairman and managing director Cyrus Guzder, AFL director Farukh Guzder and the Dachser managing directors Bernhard Simon and Thomas Reuter, while Detlev Janik, incumbent ‘Global Head – Cargo’, AFL, has been appointed CEO of the new joint venture company.
“Dachser is systematically expanding its international logistics network for the benefit of its customers,” says Thomas Reuter, managing director of Dachser Air & Sea Logistics. “This joint venture means we can offer our customers direct access to one of the key economic regions of the future. Dachser has already been working in partnership with AFL for over ten years now, and this has helped us to become one of the market leaders,” adds Reuter. The entire region is now being linked even more comprehensively to the global Dachser logistics network. The joint venture offers Indian customers a number of advantages in their export activities, and the new connections with Dachser’s European overland network gives them a real competitive edge. For European customers, of course, the joint venture opens up the Indian sales market.
In its cooperation agreements, Dachser always draws on the services of competent partners with long-standing experience in their home market. The AFL group is one of India’s biggest logistics providers, and covers the entire country with over 400 locations, including 16 hubs and 46 high-tech warehouses.
Dachser, the international logistics provider, employs 15,000 people working at 256 locations around the globe.
