Dachser invests EUR 30 million in the Hof region

Building work at the branch in the Regnitztal business park

Kempten/Hof - May 24, 2007 - Dachser – the international logistics provider – continues to invest in the optimization of its pan-European network. The company is now expanding its branch in Hof in Germany, building a new facility on an 84,000 square-metre site in the Regnitztal business park. Work on the project was officially launched on 24 May. The company is investing EUR 30 million, and will create 70 new jobs in the medium term.

Facts and figures
By the end of 2007, work is due to be completed on a 9,600 square-metre transshipment hall and a 9,000 square-metre warehouse for industrial goods. Foodstuffs will be transshipped in a hall covering an area of 4,200 square metres and operating at a temperature of between 2 and 4 degrees Celsius, and stored in a facility covering 2,800 square metres at temperatures of between 2 and 14 degrees Celsius. Approx. 3,300 square metres have been set aside for administrative and technical buildings. The branch has 163 gates and is projected to handle 65,000 consignments weighing a total of 43,000 tonnes per month. The facility is projected to grow further in the future, and the site offers optional space for expansion.

The expansion of the branch has been necessitated by its increasing importance in Dachser’s international business, especially in eastern Europe. Branch manager Günther Jakob comments: “Companies that want to offer quality logistics services have to think ahead. From our new site, we can offer our industrial and retail customers an even better level of service.” The new facility will also enable the branch to respond in the most effective way possible to customers’ growing demands in the area of Food Logistics, as well as in terms of European and intercontinental consignments.

Transport connections
The site is located at the heart of the “Am Regnitztal I” business park in Hof, and is conveniently situated between the A 9, A 72 and A 93 motorways. It also has a direct access road to the B 2 highway and the A 72 motorway. In other words, Dachser Hof enjoys fast connections with its customers, guaranteeing smooth and cost-effective deliveries. The outstanding transport links also help to reduce the traffic volumes in the town of Hof itself.

Logistics services
The new branch also specializes in contract logistics services, taking on order picking, finishing, packing and dispatch for well-known companies in the region, and was awarded certification as an EU repackaging centre some years ago. With Dachser Food Logistics, the logistics centre will provide daily services to wholesale markets and retail outlets. With Dachser DIY Logistics, which provides logistics operations for the DIY store and garden centre segment and is part of Dachser’s European Logistics division, Hof is an integral component of a network that supplies as many as 8,000 stores throughout Europe on a daily basis.

The facility in the Upper Franconia region in Germany serves as a logistics platform for the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. As a nodal point in Dachser’s pan-European network for groupage systems services, it provides up to 80 daily direct services to all the company’s German locations and 25 other European countries.

Dachser in Upper Franconia
The Hof branch was established in 1987. Since then, it has generated some 514 full-time jobs in Upper Franconia/Germany. The new facility will create 70 further positions in the medium term.

In 2006, the Dachser group generated sales worth EUR 3.1 billion. 15,000 staff working in 256 profit centres worldwide handled 33 million consignments weighing a total of 20.8 million tonnes.
