Dachser increases revenue by 19%
Last year the internationally operating logistics provider, Dachser, increased its revenue by EUR 600 million to EUR 3.8 billion, driven in particular by growth in the Air & Sea Logistics business field.
The structural decisions motivated by the financial crisis in 2009 paid off in the 2010 business year. “Total revenue of EUR 3.8 billion and a workforce of 19,250 represent a milestone in the history of our company, which now stretches back more than 80 years,” emphasizes the head of the management board, Bernhard Simon.
Employees, consignments and tonnage also up
Last year the logistics provider transported 46.2 million consignments weighing a total of 35.5 million tonnes. Simon is particularly pleased that the company has managed to attract new skilled workers and managerial staff. By the end of 2010 Dachser employed 19,250 people, including 11,400 in its home country of Germany, in 310 profit centres. The company therefore created 1,750 jobs in the course of the year.
The company’s equity ratio is a robust 40%. The company has earmarked around EUR 1.3 billion for investment over the next five years.
Global economic recovery has direct impact
Dachser European Logistics recorded revenue of EUR 2.4 billion. The logistics provider’s core business, transporting groupage in its full-coverage European network, is complemented by industry solutions for the chemical industry and the DIY and garden centre sectors.
Dachser Air & Sea Logistics, the global network for intercontinental logistics, focusing on the US, South American, European and Asian markets, generated revenue of EUR 940 million, representing growth of 68% on the previous year. “Our strategy of having a presence in the world’s most important economic markets and integrating them into our European network proved to be extremely successful last year,” comments Simon.
The third business field, Dachser Food Logistics, posted revenue of EUR 480 million in 2010. In food logistics, as in its other business fields, the logistics company connects its full-coverage network with their tailor-made contract logistics services by combining transport services with warehousing and value-added services. Dachser is one of the leading providers on the German food logistics market.
Outlook for 2011
This business year, if the economy remains stable, Dachser’s aim is to achieve healthy growth and to break the double-digit growth barrier. It is also planning to invest around EUR 260 million in extending its logistics network in all three business fields and in stepping up its training programme.
In 2011 two new Eurohubs, in Bratislava and Clermont-Ferrand, will be linked to the existing Eurohub in Überherrn in the Saarland, reducing the number of cross docking operations and cutting shipment times within Europe.
“We will move a significant step closer towards fulfilling our mission to create the world’s most intelligent combination and integration of logistical network services and in so doing will continue to optimize the logistics balance sheet of our customers,” is how Simon sums up the company’s objective.
